Obviously I'm having a little trouble finding 2 hotel rooms (with as many ammedities as possible) in or within a few hours by train from Chamonix? I will be flying into Geneva Sept 8th and leaving Geneva Sept 14th. My company is having a party in Chamonix but only until the 9th so I'm on my own after that. A friend and I were thinking of hanging around there but....roadblock. Any suggestions? I'm running out of time! Thanks!

How about Annecy? A quick look at venere.com showed a number of vacancies.
plenty of nice towns along the swiss riviera Lake Geneva - but frnech side closer to Chamonix may be cheaper. Try Gruyere (over the hill), Montreux, Lausanne, Sion, or outside Geneva.
I agree with Doug, Annecy is a lovely town. Try there and you won't be disappointed.
Have you tried tripadvisor.com. I ran Chamonix and they gave me a number of rooms available for the dates you list here.
There is also the options of chalets and B&Bs in the area.
