We will be arriving in Zurich on Saturday, May 18. Is the Whitmonday (May 20) holiday weekend a big travel weekend for the Swiss? Will I have trouble finding hotel rooms in areas like Lucerne or Locarno? Thanks.

Doesn't seem like anyone wants to jump in on this discussion. I was curious and googled it, appears to be a somewhat religious Holiday, and I saw a 4 year old posting stating that they MAY treat it like they would a Sunday, stores closed, Restuarants and train schedule similar to Sundays and/or Holidays. My info is not absolute. My gut feeling is , this shouldn't hinder your trip to any extent.

Yes it is a holiday here, so it should be like a Sunday for shops and trains etc. But it should not really made a difference to your plans, as neither town would be high on the Swiss weekend away list.
