My husband and I are going to nice, Monaco and st tropez at the end of march, we would like to take the train or drive to st emilion for wine tasting experience. We only have 7 days to do all this. Any recommendations of how to maximize our time there? Is it 2 days too short to go to St Emilion? I appreciate any advice.
Unfortunately St Emilion is on the other side of the country from Nice, about a 10- or 11-hour train ride. . .
According to my look, it's 7 hours by car or 10 by train between Nice and St. Emilion. You'd be much better off going to Gigondas (2.5 hrs), in the Cotes du Rhone, and you'd be driving through some wonderful vineyards of the Luberon in Provence. The wine cooperative in Gigondas offers about 126 different wines to taste, that should keep you busy for the two days. Beaune (in Bourgogne) is closer than St. Emilion, with great wine tasting there as well. Send pm if you want more info.
Thank you, very helpful information.
We have stayed in Gigondas and St Emilion and really enjoyed both towns. St Emilion is more of a town with some interesting cites-wine caves, ancient church, wine chateaux, etc. whereas Gigondas is a small village with wine boutiques. We stayed at Hotel Les Florets there and they do a great gourmet five course dinner. We combined St E with a Dordogne trip and Gigondas with visiting Provence.
