Which Train Salzburg to Mestre

Looking at making train reservation on OBB in Austria and I see where there is a flex train which price is higher and a specific train from Salzburg and Mestre Italy . Train I am looking at goes through Innsbruck leaves at 10:42 and arrives at 17:45 specific train is only 39 euroes . Flex train is 78 euroes .Question is one is this scenic train ride and two most direct route and three specific over flex train.

The most direct and fastest route (6hr13min) is a train from Salzburg to Villach and a well-appointed highway bus operated by Austrian Rail from there to Venice. Booked well in advance, you can get a discount fare as low as €29.00. If you book far enough in advance, you can get the same €29.00 fare for Salzburg-Innsbruck-Venice.

Thank you, So it doesn't matter if I do the flex or speciifc train, 29 Euros sounds good planning on making reservation tomorrow should be far enough out. We are staying in Mestre 10 minutes outside Venice and hotel is across street from train station.

Terry, when I see a "Flex" fare, it generally is a more expensive fare because it provides the most flexibilty to modify and change if necessary. The special fares noted by Tim above could be fixed, non-refundable and non-exchangable. Big difference.

Terry When you go over the road to Mestre station (10 minutes from Venice is a slight stretch, 10+ minutes on the train to Santa Lucia station then either a fair walk or half an hour on a vaporetto to the main tourist areas) take the platform screen with a lump of salt. I have before found myself chasing up and down stairs at Mestre station following an evasive train.... but you will find one eventually. There is a frequent service into Santa Lucia.

Larry is right. In my previous post I forgot to say that discount fare tickets are for a specific departure date and time and are non-exchangeable and non-refundable.

Thanks everyonethe specific train will be ok we have to leave that day to get to Mestre and then on to our cruise. I don't mind getting to station ahead on time to make sure we get on right train.
