Which is the best Meininger hostel in Berlin

Hi all,

My husband and I are considering getting a private double at one of the 4 Meininger hostels in Berlin, being married, we probably prefer the one that is a little quieter. Has anyone stayed in one? Anything to watch out for (eg need to be there by noon or ur room is gone) Which one would you recommend?

thanks,
Sonia

check out couchsurfing.com...you can stay in someone's home or apt, sleep on their couch or extra bed for free and become an ambassador....meet local people....it's fantastic.

Instead of a hostel, try this apt. service. My daughter and I had a great little apt. for 2 nights and it was only 48 € per night. Very clean, fully equipped kitchen, close to public transport and the landlord was very nice too.

Hi Jo, thanks for your reply. I had a look at the site, there are a few 1 bedroom apartments for under 50 euro, good value! This may be a silly question... Since they are apartments, they wouldnt have a front desk - how do you "check in"? In Sydney we need to go to the real estate first (so need to get there before it closes) then drive 20 mins to the apartment or they would hide the keys under the carpet or in the front yard under the tree. How does it work for these apartments?

Once you pick out an apt. you submit a request. They email you the email address and phone number of the landlord and tell you that they should get in touch with you within 48 hours. Then the landlord makes arrangements with you personally about getting the key. It could be they live next door, or if you are just staying in the house they would of course live there. The place where we stayed, I told the man what train I was arriving on and he told me how to get to the apt. with the bus and then came home from work and met us there with the key. I paid him the money and we never saw him again! I thought it worked pretty easy.
