Which airport for Provence?

We have rented a house in a small village near Carpentras. Is it easier to get to the Marseilles or Lyon airport? We are arriving by train after some time in Paris, so it is the flight home to the US that is in question. We will have a car that we could drop off in Avignon or elsewhere.

Carpentras is about an hour closer to Marseille than to Lyon.

I stayed in Carpentras a few years ago and we did what you mentioned. Dropped the car in Avignon, then took the train to Marseilles for the flight home.
