Rick mentioned about Rue Cler in his books so we will try to get a hotel in the area but just in case, it will n ot be available for this July, is there other options? Preferably one with air con and one close to Eiffel tower. Has anyone have feedbacks regarding Hotel Madison or madison hotel? Thanks
The Latin quarter (5th arrondisement) is much more central to most of the sites than the Rue Cler area. Yes, you can take the metro to everything, but it's very pleasant to be able to walk to your choices. It's fun to "hang out" in front of Notre Dame in the evening and you will be close to get in line by 9:30 so you can go up the Notre Dame towers.
Sally, it would be helpful if you could suggest a budget range.
I too concur( with Cynthia) that staying in the 5th or 6th is just as nice,, or in my opinion nicer, then worrying about getting a room on a certain street in the 7th , or near the ET.. You can see the ET from many areas,, so perhaps a room with a view would be just as nice in any other area also?
I recommend Hotel Muguet at Rue Chevert (7th arro)which is just 2 blocks from the Eiffel (some rooms even have a view of the tower); check their website for pictures which are true to what they really are. If you go to Trip Advisor, they get great reviews for a moderate priced hotel. I've never stayed anywhere else in my trips to Paris. It is near 2 Metro stops and restaurants, open markets abound in the area and it is very safe at night. Rooms are tiny but they are spanking clean esp the bathrooms. They also have an elevator plus storage room if you arrive early or leave late.
