My parents and I are going back to Europe in June and want to visit the Berner Oberland for 3 full days. We want to stay in either Interlaken or Lauterbrunnen but do not want to stay in a pension. We want a comfy hotel where we have a shower and toilet in our room. Where would you recommend to stay? Thanks!
You are going to get a lot of responses, so here is mine. Hands down, Murren, Hotel Alpina, room with balcony facing Jungfrau!!
Murren would be my first choice too, we've stayed there twice and loved it. Interlaken and Lauterbrunnen are on the valley floor whereas Murren is 5,000' up and surrounded by the Alps - it's mind blowing scenery all around you. Many good places to stay in Murren, we stayed at Hotel Eiger with a balcony (wherever you stay, it's well worth getting a room with a balcony).
Last Summer we also stayed in Murren. We stayed at Chalet Fontana. We had a wonderful view of the alps, all the conveniences of a hotel, but with more room and probably cheaper. IT was an awesome area. Have a great trip.
I've also stayed at Chalet Fontana and always recommend it as a favorite lodging, but the bathrooms are shared. The place is small, however, so sharing a couple of bathrooms is no problem whatsoever. Still, if you must have facilities in your room, I'm afraid this place won't work for you. No balconies either, but the windows open wide with no screens to block that amazing view. The full-service hotels previously mentioned always get good reviews here.
Brendon - I can recommend the Hotel Jungfrau in Murren (http://www.hoteljungfrau.ch/). Super location right in the middle of the Alps, balconies, and private baths. Good restaurant, nice staff, and they did my laundry for a reasonable price. Five stars in my book! I love the Berner Oberland - hope you have a great time!
Thanks for all the advice everyone!!! We booked Hotel Jungfrau last night. It looks like an awesome hotel!!!
