Going to Spain and Portugal in early May. Will have a car from Santiago de Compestella and head back to Madrid. For stops in Porto and Segovia is it best to book ahead, or have info on 2-3 hotels and just sort of wing it when we get there? Only one night in each place.

Hostel plaza in Segovia is great. Was there in 2003, still recall good size rooms, LARGE bathroom with bath tub, 2 minutes walk from the TI, next door is the jose maria restaurant - excellent pig dishes. Not sure if RS still lists it, but it was on my 2002 or 2003 book.

Laura, We stayed at Hotel La Casa Mudejar which is renovated mansion built in 1470. Hotel is near the corner of Major Square. You can check on their web site to find out parking instruction.
