Where to stay in Salzburg

I'm traveling from Munich to Ljubljana, and would like to spend a couple of days in Salzburg. Any suggestions for inexpensive, safe convenient accommodations there? Thanks! -Tim

Tim, you might have a look at * www.hotel-goldenekrone.com/ * for one possibility. It looks like they've redesigned their website recently, and it seems to be only in German (unless I missed the English tab?). Happy travels!

We stayed at a Best Western near the Railway station, sorry I don't remember the name, but teh staff were most helpful in organizing things for us, especially as we had to catch a 4:30am train the day we left.

There's lots of B&B's out on the Moosstrasse, just a 10 minute bus ride from the middle of town. Most places run around 50 euro/night for a double out there.

Hi Tim - Steve's book recommends a couple of family run pensions. Pension Katrin is within walking distance of the city and is very reasonably priced. http://members.aon.at/pensionkatrin.at/rechts_engl.htm You might also try House Reichl (long web address) http://www.privatzimmer.at/portal/index.php?action=Showhostedpageeng&page=10193&code=50101&regcode=500014 or Haus Ballwein http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g190441-d652621-Reviews-Haus_Ballwein-Salzburg_Austrian_Alps.html I have found Trip Advisor's traveler's reviews very informative. Safe Travels!

We stayed at Hotel Weisse Taube, a RS recommended property in Old Town. It was a great location, breakfast was wonderful and we would stay there again on a return trip to Salzburg.

I stayed at the Golden Krone about three years ago and found it safe, convenient and reasonably priced. Pam

Hi Tim-Another vote for Hotel Weisse Taube. We thought it was cozy with a great breakfast nook and easy to walk everywhere we wanted to go. We thought the staff was friendly and helpful. Have fun in Salzburg!

Institute San Sebastian is all three. The price is the same as a hostel (but the cleanest and quietest hostel you are likely to visit - and I've been to a lot), it's walking distance to town center and in a safe neighborhood (but the same rules apply to keeping your stuff locked up as any hostel).
