Can you do two rooms? I have rarely seen hotels that do more then 3 or 4 to a room, and even those are less common.

We stayed at the Hotel Bergland in their "family room" and liked it. There were four of us. I bet they could add a roll away bed. The room was big enough. They are very cooperative.

We walked there from the station and it was a 10 minute walk to the Altstadt. They are in a nice residential neighborhood near a playground if you are traveling with children.

Kevin, I'm traveling to Salzburg with my family of four and we're staying in 2 rooms for 2 nights at the 4* Marriott Renaissance hotel for only $60/night! How do you ask? Learn how to use Priceline.com by reading biddingfortravel.com. It's the best way to travel for a family on a budget!

We just returned from Salzburg this week. We stayed at the Hotel Elefant, just off the Getreidegasse (close to the Mozart Museum). Very accessible to everything, nice rooms (but extremely small elevator). We had three in our party and they gave us a small suite with one double bed and then the sofa in the other room converted to a bed.

Kevin,
my recommendation is that you try to find a vacation apartment in or around Salzburg,
many of these Ferienwohnungen are relatively affordable, in some places you even have the option of getting breakfast as part of the deal, and wouldn't have to worry about shopping and fixing it yourself.
With the myriad of local train and bus connections/options in and around Salzburg, you need NOT stay right by the Bahnhof/train station, which is not exactly in the most picturesque part of town!

We stayed at Institute San Sebastian. It's basically college dorm rooms but very clean, quiet and well run. They can give you two rooms with three beds each that share a small hall and bath with a door that locks to the outside hall.

I have stayed twice at Hotel Am Don recommended in the Rick Steves book. The location is great and the staff is very friendly.
