Where to stay in Salzburg?

My wife and I have two nights and three days in Salzburg in September. Where's a great place to stay?

Andrew,

I was very pleased with the Hotel Goldene Krone. The room was very comfortable and the owners were great. I didn't find the Bells from the Church to be much of a problem.

There are ATM's and nice restaurants close by and it's an easy walk to the river and the "other side" of the city.

Happy travels!

I agree with Ken. The Golden Krone is centrally located, a decent price, and a good breakfast.

We liked the Hotel Bergland across the river from the old town, about 10 minutes walk.

It is in a residential community that I find a nice escape from the advanced tourism of old town Salzburg.

Bergland has nice rooms, a decent breakfast and very helpful staff.

Regards, Gary

Hi Andrew

Sound of Music fans??? If you are, there's only 1 place - Villa Trapp. The original home of the real von Trapp family. 10 minutes bus ride from the center of the city, but oh soo worth it.

We've stayed at the Hotel Elefant, in the old section around the corner from the Getreidegasse street (and Mozart's home). All the shops right there, and a short walk to the Salzburg Cathedral

I also liked Weisse Taube. We walked almost everywhere!

Just got back and LOVED it. We stayed at the Renaissance near the convention center. A very nice, modern hotel, although probably not on anyone's "Top 10" list. But you might want to consider: 1) If you're a Marriott Rewards member, you can use your points. We did and we stayed for free. 2) Salzburg is a relatively small town, and it's only a 15-minute walk (or 5 minute cab ride) into the Old Town, 3) Doesn't sound like you're traveling with kids, but it's one of the few hotels that offers Quad occupancy rooms.

Hi Andrew

If your interested in staying in an apartment check this place out:
http://www.frauenbergers-restaurant.at

I stayed here back in June with my wife and three children. We rented the studio apartment with kitchen for two nights. They had no problem with renting to us for only two nights.
The owners(a couple with two young children) were very friendly. She evened e-mailed us after we got home to see how our Sound Of Music bicycle tour went.

The location was great because we were able to walk to everything.

We were disappointed because we could only stay two nights-went to Germany, Austria, Italy and Paris in two weeks.
We would definitely stay here again.

Have a great trip!
