Where to stay in Paris in an Apartment for two weeks?

My husband and I spend 2-3 days in Paris each year. In 2008 we want to spend two weeks in Paris. We are very familar with the center of Paris, but not so much with the outer areas. We want to rent an apartment in a nice neighborhood with good Metro access. I want to cook, so I need access to markets and food stores of all kinds. Good restaurants are a real plus. Any suggestions?

I can't list off places to stay in Paris - there are too many possibilities. But, I can give some suggestions.

Last July, my mother rented us a cute apartment via Paris Attitude on the border of the 15th and 7th arrondissements (rue Nélaton). This residential area is peaceful and quiet. It's right by line 6, making transportation super easy. There are some restaurants on Boulevard Grenelle. And when you absolutely need it and can't locate it anywhere else, you can find it at the Monoprix by La Motte-Picquet métro stop.

Things are rather busy at the intersection of the Seine and the Boulevard because of the Eiffel Tower, but other than that, the neighborhood is serene. My apartment was right by the Seine. If you ride the métro in between Bir-Hakeim and Passy, you will see THE BEST view of the Eiffel Tower and the Seine ever.

Wherever you decide to stay, I hope you enjoy Paris.

Sue -

I like the area Martin suggested. Another option is in the St. Germain Area.

This quiet area is also centrally located between the 7th and 6th arrondisment. Large streets to lok for with your apartment search - Boulevard St. Germain, Rue de Rennes, Boulevard Raspail - St. Sulpice, St. Michel

We stayed in the Marais in a small place in 2005. Thisis one of the best locations- it is close to Notre Dame and easy to reach Louvre and Tuileries.
Parisbestlodge was our rental agent and they have Left Bank apts and others as well

Hi. We just returned from a trip to Paris and we rented an apartment for one week (but had to leave two days early because of the train strike :-( ) Our apartment was wonderful. It was located in the 5th arr. just 3 blocks from the metro. 3 mornings a week the area next to the metro is a large open-air market with the freshest fruits, vegetables, meat and fish, as well as cheese, olives, bread, etc. etc. We rented through historicrentals.com. The owner, George, is based in the U.S. and couldn't have been more helpful. We loved our apartment, our neighborhood, and basically everything about our rental. George rents for a minimum of a week but can certainly rent for two weeks. Check out his website and tell him that Lois in San Diego sent you! There are lots of restaurants in the area; lots of ethnic restaurants we noticed. La Bastide Odeon is one of our favorites in Paris and it is a short walk (or ride) to the next metro stop. Les Fetes Galantes was next door to us and a delight.

Hi Sue, the above link is VacationInParis, a USA company with headquarters in New Jersey. There's a toll-free number you can call if you have questions after you browse the available apartments. You could have the key to your cool Paris apartment before you leave Springfield. bon voyage! P

I can second the recommendation of historicrentals.com. We have rented from George for years. In fact we are renting an apartment from him in New Orleans this weekend.

I also like the one bedroom apartment that is available through the Relais Bosquet Hotel.

I second Martine's suggestion. We usually stay in an apartment along the 15th-7th border, but a little farther down towards Place Cambronne. We like it because it's away from the tourist areas (but still only a 15 minute walk to the Eiffel Tower), yet modern with the local neighbourhood feel. Besides the grocery stores like Monoprix, there are all sorts of shops for fresh food. And there's a big market (food, clothing, and other stuff) Wednesday and Sunday mornings along Boul. Grenelle right underneath the elevated Metro at La Motte-Piquette Grenelle. It spreads for two long blocks! A good source for apartments is homelidays.com. You deal directly with the owner, and the website encourages clients to post their views, so you get a good idea what people who've stayed there think of the apartments.

My family & I used http://www.my-apartment-in-paris.com/en/ to rent an apt in the 5th district. I can not say enough about this agency. The apt was very clean, large, & well-stocked w/kitchenware & linens. The photos for the apt I stayed in on the website were accurate. 95% of my correspondence was done online. I told them what I wanted & they found it which was also reasonably priced. And they were so nice & efficient. I was literally "spitting distance" from any type of food shop, cafe, & the Maubert market. This particular apt may not be suitable for you since it was a 5 min walk to Notre Dame. But they have other apts further away from the Seine on the Left Bank which may be more to your liking. Good luck.

We're renting two apartments for 7 nights in May. One through VRBO and one through VacationinParis. They're both in the 7th near the infamous rue Cler. We stayed (in a hotel) in the same area our first trip and it's safe, beautiful and has everything to offer...that's why we're going back to the same area. I looked specifically in that triangle between the Eiffel and Invalides. It's a lovely area.
