Where to stay in Nice and Aix de provence France?

I have about four days in Nice and Aix this May. I need some ideas where to stay. I will not have a car, so they hotels/B&B's need to be easy to get to. Thanks,
Electra

We found the hotels in Nice to be quite expensive and so we stayed in Villefranche. It is charming and you can easily get a train to Nice, etc. Enjoy! Don't miss the outdoor market in Nice!

We stayed at the Hotel Le Royal on the Promenade des Anglais. Very nice and not TOO expensive. We had booked a room at Hotel Felix (an inexpensive hotel) online and were so disgusted with the dirty rooms, noisy location that we checked out that same night and went to Le Royal. Well worth losing the 85 euro to sleep in a clean and pleasant place. This was the last night of our trip and we weren't going to ruin it.

There is an Etap Hotel on the boardwalk, in the middle of Nice and it is very reasonable. It would be a 20-30 minute walk from the train station or a 5 minute walk to the tram, buy a 1 Euro ticket and ride the tram until you get to the open area in the middle of Nice and the tram turns left. Get off, go right and the Etap is straight ahead. Be really careful about pickpockets in the train station and on the tram. REALLY CAREFUL. See: Etap Hotel Nice Californie Lenval

Electra, In 2008 we loved Hôtel Mercure Marché aux Fleurs in Nice: had a lovely Triple, staff were somewhat friendly & helpful, breakfast was fantastic.
In Aix we have stayed at Quatre Dauphins (last time was 2003) which is quaint, good breakfast, somewhat helpful staff; last stay at le Manoir was in 2007 which we love for the outdoor breakfast in the (1-sided) cloister. Breakfast okay, staff more friendly if you speak French. Hôtel les Augustins was a kick in 2008 with very friendly, helpful staff, fantastic breakfast. I have a reservation for later this year at le Manoir. Hope this helps!
