I'll be in Lugano with a friend for a couple days in late September. I'm looking for suggestions for where to stay.
We enjoyed our stay last summer at Hotel Pestalozzi, very central, vg brfast, squeky clean, choice of ensuite or not for the more budget minded.
I stayed at Hotel Walter du Lac in June. We had a room with a balcony overlooking Lake Lugano and I enjoyed my stay there. The room was clean, the breakfast was good and the people at the hotel desk were very helpful. It is in a central location and an easy walk to the piazzas.
Another vote for the W[INVALID]. It seems to have been THE Lugano hotel at one time, is now showing its age, but more than adequate. I think all the rooms have a lake view and most, if not all have balconies. Good breakfast and an ideal location. You can walk anywhere and there is a cog railway to the railway station above the old town.
Thanks. The Walter is full at this time but I'll watch to see if perhaps there are cancellations before we arrive.
Heather: Where did you learn the Walter was full? Tripadvisor gave us the same info, but we booked directly with the hotel with no problem.
Heather, another vote for Albergo Pestalozzi. I was there a few months ago, and would certainly recommend them. Are you arriving in Lugano by train? The Hotel is a bit of a walk from the station (espcially with luggage), but not too bad once you know the way (it involves a Funicular). I took a Taxi when first arriving, as it was a much easier solution (especially with the weight of my Packs). Happy travels!
We'll have a car and be driving from Zurich. Thx for the suggestions.
