My husband and I are traveling to France in September and we are spending a few days in Paris, but would like to spend a couple days in the French Riviera. Any suggestions on where to stay?
Nice makes a great base for exploring. In 2005, my wife and I and our adult daughter spent five nights at the Hotel le Clemenceau (www.hotelclemenceau.com). We chose it because Rick Steves described it as "a spacious two-star hotel that feels like a three-star." We agree wholeheartedly. It's located midway between the Nice Ville train station and the beach.
Great idea, Alissa! We love the Riviera/Cote d'Azure and have spent several vacations there. It is a nice compliment to time spent in Paris. Nice is a good choice if you like a city. We prefer Antibes or Cap d'Antibes as a base since it has a smaller town atmosphere, fun "old village" area, beaches, great hike around the cape, and easy access to other areas of the Riviera via train or car. We have stayed in St. Jean Cap Ferrat also. It is very secluded and beautiful but we thought it took too long to get to anyplace else. Check Rick's recommendations for accomodations or go on tripadvisor.com for good advice on places to stay. We like La Jabotte near the beach or La Garoupe, La Gardiole on the "Cap"(haven't stayed there in a couple of years). Have a lovely trip!
