We were going to stay in Munich. However,we would like to stay about an hour or two out of the city. Any suggestions please

Within a two hour radius. Mountain, small town would be good. We would like to spend one day in Munich.
Thanks

My preferences would be GaP, Mittenwald, Grainau, or Oberamergau.

Hi Judy,

I'd also suggest Mittenwald plus another village we love... Ramsau by Berchtesgaden. The only way I can describe Mittenwald is it's the quintessential Bavarian village with a mountain backdrop. Ramsau is a pretty, yet small village, with gorgeous mountain scenery. It's just 10 minutes from Berchtesgaden, 15minutes from Konigsee and 30 minutes from Salzburg.

If interested, we have some photo's:

I took Paul's advice and stayed in Mittenwald last month. I thought it was perfect. Lovely small town with plenty of places to eat surrounded by beautiful mountains. Quiet at night. Lots of opportunities for walks and hikes. I loved it.

There are a whole lot of mountain towns south of Munich. The whole area south of Holzkirchen is scenic, with excellent rail access (~1 hr) into Munich Hbf. Look at Kochel am See, Bad Toelz, Gmund, Teggernsee, Schliersee. Oberammergau also has good rail access to Munich.

I stayed in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and highly recommend it. If you have a car it is a great base to do day trips from.
