We will be in Barcelona next June and are unsure as to what neighborhood to stay in. We are a family of 5, (kids age 10, 14, 17). We are looking for a safe area with good access to all of the hot spots. We intend to rent a flat rather than stay in a hotel. Is Las Ramblas the best place to stay?? Thanks everyone!

The Las Ramblas area will fulfill your requirements. Can not recommend any specific location however.

I highly recommend the Hotel Lloret, at the top of the Ramblas. It is listed in Rick's book. I last stayed there in January 2010; first time was September 2005 and both times were very good.

I stayed at the Lloret in 2008. The location couldn't be handier for access to the Metro, HOHO buses and Ramblas. The rates were reasonable. There was a generous amount of "common space" and computer access.

Really loved Hotel 1898 off of La Ramblas. Fantastic location and beautiful rooftop pool, restaurant, bar and lounge area. You can view some awesome sunsets with a gorgeous view of Barcelona! We were there in June and thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
