I'm a single woman traveling to Barcelona in one month. I want to feel safe where I stay in coming and going and am wondering if anyone can recommend a neighborhood and hotel for about $100 a night.

For Safety and Location I would recommend the area around the Catedral. I stayed there in October with a group at the Catedral Hotel. Safe and central location. The tariff may be more than you specify, but check with them on their web site. Consider the location as you may pay more in transportation charges if you stay out in some area if you want to see the Gothic Quarter, Catedral, Las Ramblas, etc.
Where ever you stay, you may very well be approached by very pushy (in your face) beggars. Our group was!!! Walk away from them. Barcelona is a wonderful city to vist. Sangra Familia, Gaudi, Las Ramblas!!! Such good memories!!!
