Where to Stay in Amsterdam or Haarlem?

My husband and I with our 2 teenage daughters are going to Amsterdam. Can anyone recommend a good place to stay? I have read great reviews about Paul&Karen BB in Amsterdam. But can't seem to find a website for them. Sue

We preferred to stay in Haarlem--it's a quick train ride to Amsterdam. The hotel we liked was Rick's recommended Hotel Amadeus.

Susan, for P&K's, Google "Paul Karen Tulips B&B" or "lodging international B&B Amsterdam"; should find it. Their email is '[email protected]', phone 00-31-20-679-2753. Looks like nice spot/people; that said, with 2 teen gals, I'd stay in Haarlem at any of R's recommended hotels/B&B. As well as the main(Grote)market, visit the Botermarkt, just up the street, and see how the locals do their daily market shopping. Right by the Btrmkt is a McDonald's if you need a 1/4 pounder fix and also a V&D Dept store to see the Dutch version of Macy's or a fancy Sears.

If you are going to Amsterdam everyday then stay there otherwise I like Haarlem as a base at Hotel Amadeus. Amsterdam is very seedy in general but has outstanding sights too for the visitor. it is your choice.

Our family always really likes our stays at the Owl Hotel, in a quiet neighborhood, a couple of blocks behind the Marriott and near Vondel Park and the Van Gogh Museum. The rates are reasonable, the breakfast good, and it is always clean and pleasant. We will be there in late June. We have reserved a family room for 4 of us at 185 Euros a night, not cheap, but for what you get it is very reasonable.

Various members of our family have stayed at the Owl, when in Amsterdam, for more than 20 years. It is very convenient to all of the main attractions and the tram.

We stayed at the t'Hotel on Leliegracht on the canal. It's about a block from the Anne Frank House. Hotel rooms were very large & a nice breakfast was included.
