We will spend 4 nights in the Bernese Oberland in July and I am trying to decide where to stay. Husband and I stayed a night at W's in Gimmelwald in 2002 (historic rains, we left after 1 night, we didn't get to see the views). Since then we have become hikers and I can't wait to get back. I know a highlight of the trip for our 7 year-old will be swimming in a pool. :) Trying to decide if it would be better to stay in Murren for that reason, would be easier to have a swim every day if we were staying there. But the pool is certainly doable from Gimmelwald. Has anyone used the pool? Has anyone been at W's lately? Wondering what things are like as he gets older (Tim was there when we were there). We would stay at W's again (though I am a lot pickier now than 10 years ago!), or Esther's, or at Chalet Fontana in Murren. W's and Fontana are both 130SF and Esther's is 185SF (including breakfast). Any comments?
"W's" is Walter's Hotel Mittaghorn, no idea why it posted like that, that's not what I typed!
Also, is there a playground in Murren? I think there is one in Gimmelwald.
NO!!!!! We will be there in late July. :( What a disappointment. I know there is a hotel with a pool but it is pricey. Thank you for letting me know. I wonder why they chose to close the pool during the summer months?
yes
Monique, We were in Murren and Lauterbrunnen in summer 2011 with B5 and B2 and they loved it. Your seven year old will have a fantastic time. Make sure to go to the playground at the top of the Almenhubel funicular. Is a fun little playground and the views are incredible. Also if your heart is set on a swimming pool, there is a pool in Lauterbrunnen that is open during the summer. We did not test it out because it was early June and still a little chilly.

Chris, what do the building works consist of? Are they changing anything about the skating rink or Crazy Golf?
Thanks Chris, I emailed them. At least we will know now, instead of showing up in July with our bathing suits on!
The dates now are opening July 28, halfway through our stay, maybe we will get to use it.
