Where to spend a night on our way from Luzern to the Costa Brava?

Along with two weeks in central Switzerland (where we visit family), we'll spend some time at a home along the Costa Brava. Driving to and from, we'd like to stop & see some sites ~ Pont du Gard, Roman ruins. I have in mind an overnight in Orange, Arles, or Nimes. Anyone prefer one of these over the others? We need space for our family of seven, so hotels are an issue. And what about Carcassone? Worth a stop ~ arriving late and leaving early? Rick mentioned a family-friendly hostel here, so that's a plus. Open to any & all advice on these areas. Thanks!

Bueller here. I liked staying in Arles. I can't recommend a place for a family of 7. A night in Carcassone would be another nice stop. Are there kids in your group? They would love Carcassone.

Thanks for the reply, Andrea. Where in Arles did you stay? I'm looking at Hotel Regence, recommended by Rick. No frills, but clean & relatively affordable, especially as we'll need two rooms. Yes, I think my five guys, ages 7 to 17, would appreciate Carcassone. Just worried about potential crowds, given its popularity. Anyone else want to chime in? I thought I'd have more takers on this one...

I stayed at the Hotel Regence and it was just fine. Our room was clean and comfortable, and the price was right. There was easy and free parking just across the street. It was an easy walk from there to everything we wanted to see. We didn't pay for the breakfast because we were able to eat less expensively elsewhere. We did have coffee and tea in the mornings and were charged 1€ each. The hotel has wifi in the lobby and breakfast room, but it isn't free. I had trouble connecting to it with my iPad, and over 3 days I was only connected about 30 minutes. They didn't charge me for it. I did Carcassone as a day trip in early October. I didn't find it overly crowded. In high season arriving later in the day (late afternoon) and leaving mid-morning should help you avoid most of the crowds.
