I will be driving in the austrian alps area sept 17-19th. We are interested in seeing hallstatt, grossglockner, berchtesgaden area...I am looking for suggestions on what to see in the area and nice but inexpensive places to stay. My budget for a double room is around 50-65 euros. Thank you

I'll recommend Helga Lenz Zimmer in Hallstatt. This place is homey, cheap, super clean, and has great views from the top of the town. You should be able to find contact information in Rick’s book, tripadvisor, or on the internet.

For the Grosglockner area we can highly recommend the Pension Ederhof in Heiligenblut, Austria. This lovely village is situated at the southern terminus of the Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse. Spectacular scenery!
For the Berchtesgaden area our favorite place to stay is the Pension Mayringerlehen in nearby Ramsau (10 min. from Berchtesgaden). We've stayed twice and we'll be there again this fall.
