Where to return Rental car?

After we see D-Day beaches we will go to Paris. Where should we turn in our rental car (rented in Bordeaux)? In Caen and train into Paris? Or drive to Orley or other site near paris to return the rental car then shorter train to paris?
There are four of us.

I returned at CDG, and had no problems. With four of you there should be some navigators.... it is well signed, so if you pay attention you will not end up in downtown Paris with your car.

I am planning a similar trip in September and i opted to return my car at Orly. My main reason was that we could stop and visit Versailles and then drop the car in the evening and take public transit into Paris. I also wanted to get as close to Paris (without actually going into it) as I could. Since I was already paying for the car for that day, I wanted to minimize the train expense. I am curious to see if anyone has dropped their car at Orly and what their experience was, so I will be watching your responses.

Past years we've both picked up and dropped off at Orly. Dropping off is easier because the signs show the way. A good GPS helps as there are a lot of roads going in different directions as you approach.

For my September trip I'm returning my rental car in Caen and taking the train to Paris. I don't want to hassle with driving in/near Paris.

Returned to Orly. Pretty well signed although seemed longer than distance listed on signs. Worried we had missed it, but no such problem. Shuttle train and metro into town quite simple.

I am still trying to decide between Caen and Orly. I will try to get on the train reservation system today and see if I am brave enough to buy tickets.

If you have an interest in visiting Monet's House & Gardens in Giverny, you could return the car in nearby Vernon. There is direct train service from Vernon to Gare St, Lazare ... about a 45 to 50 minute ride. Not really a need to make train reservations.

I love the idea of no train reservations!
Giverney would be great!
