We are traveling to Loire Valley in June and will be arriving in Paris on Eurostar from London. We'd like to rent a car and are trying to determine the best location to rent a car and get out of the city without too much hassle. Would it be best to rent a car at Gare du Nord or search for a rental pickup somewhere else? We plan to bring our Garmin with Europe maps but wondered how accurate and easy to follow it will be. Thanks for any help!
If you pick up at Gare du Nord, the road outside runs straight to the Peripherique which will take you around the city and let you jump off to head to the Loire.
What Doug said. If stories of the dreaded Peripherique bother you (you'd be better to ignore them) you can keep trucking north to the A86 and make a slightly wider sweeping arc that'd only add about fifteen miles and might even be a wash in time depending on traffic. If you do this, make the sweep is in the western hemisphere regardless of what some nutty gps or mapping software might try to talk you into doing. Stick in Rouen or something until you cross under the A14 and then reset to where you're heading and you'll do just fine.
