We'll be driving from Santiago to the Basque Region of Spain and want to take things a bit more leisurely than Rick does. Therefore, we're not interested in a straight 6-hour shot to the Picos. We're thinking about a 4 hour drive along the coast the first day, and check out the Picos on the 2nd, ending up in Bilbao late the 2nd day, visiting the Guggenheim, and heading out to Pamplona on the afternoon of the 3rd day for some driving through the Western Pyrenees. Anyone have any suggestions for a nice place to stay about 4 hours East of Santiago on the coast? Luarca? Culdillero?
Cudillero is a very cute little coastal town. It would make a good stopping point. When I was there, though, I was staying closer to Oviedo, though, so I can't recommend any accomodations in Cudillero.
Thanks. I'd also like to calibrate our sense of driving times. It looks like 1 to 1.5 hours from Santiago to Lugo along the N-547/N-540, then another hour to the coast from there along N-640.
Are there any websites that give driving times along the non-expressways in Spain?
