Where to go in the Black Forest?

Hi, We have found a really inexpensive place to stay in the Black Forest, so we'd like to spend a week or so here. We are in Sainkt Georgen in Schwarzwald, right outside of Triberg (Cuckoo clocks). Our host has told us that Zurich is 90 minutes away. He had also recommended Lake Konstanz as an easy drive. We are staying for less than $40 night, and we can stay 7-10 days. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

I stayed in St. Georgen myself this past March for two nights. It's an odd little town, but well located for outings to other BF towns. Hornberg, Hausach, Villingen and Schiltach are all nearby and charming places. Dozens of other towns are further afield but reachable fron SG: Gengenbach, Freudenstad, Rottweil, Freiburg and Hinterzarten among them. You could actually park or turn in your car for the week - train travel on the scenic Black Forest Railway is free if you stay in St. Georgen and will take you to all the places in the BF I mentioned (though not to Konstanz or Zürich!!) You can use all the areas buses for free too. http://www.blackforest-tourism.com/konus When you get your Konus card from your hosts, use it for discounts at museums and other attractions too - like the BF museum in Triberg.

If you go to Lake Constance (the Bodensee) and visit the border town of Konstanz, you can take the train to Zuerich from there. Short ride, convenient railway station, very old cathedral, boat tours on the lake and a really funky fountain called the Laube Brunnen. Just google "Konstanz Germany fountain" and photos come up. I thought it was hilarious, an older woman friend did not.
