Where to go from Monte Carlo?

My wife and I are staying in Monte Carlo for 5 nights for a company group awards trip, and will be extend the trip a few days on our own. Any suggestions on where to go?

Is Cinqua Terre, Italy too far? Perhaps Lyon? Looking to relax yet have enough to do to be entertained. Thanks!

You could stay in Villefranche or Nice, then tour the Provence area, if you rent a car. Old Nice's market area is very interesting, as well as the Chagall and Matisse museums. Also, St. Tropez or Grasse are accessible by bus or train. Les Baux, a medieval village on top of a stone mountain, is a fascinating area to visit if you have a car.

Thank you! My wife has her sights set on Cinqua Terra on the Italian Riviera. Is this too far? I very much appreciate your response.

It will take 5-6 hours to go by train from Monaco to the Cinque Terre and you will have to change trains 1-3 times. See the timetables at www.bahn.de. Click on "Internat. Guests" to view the site in English. After you get summary timetables, click on "Details for all" to see the connecting points.

Look on www.viamichelin.com and check out the
distance and driving times. I don't think it
would take longer than the train. If you do the
train get off in Genoa and rent a car there.
You can see Portofino along the way down.
Portovener below La Spezia and the CT is also
worth seeing.
Probably be cheaper to rent a car in Nice.

Thank you for the suggestions! I think we'll try to drive - if we can get a place to stay this late in the game.
