We will have a cat and will be in Luxembourg for 3 days and would like to see another country for a few hours. We don't want to drive too far and we were thinking about Trier, Metz or Heidelberg. All 3 of these places look amazing. What would you choose? Other places are greatly appreciated. THANKS!!

Trier and the western part of the Mosel. I would recommend the whole stretch as far as Burg Eltz but that would make it a long drive back. Vianden and the Ardennes in general. Bastogne for its Battle of the Bulge connection. Instead of or in addition to Metz, look at Verdun. There are others, but a day trip means no more than three or four hours driving time each way, preferably less, or you spend the whole day in the car.

Heidelberg is way too far for a "few hours"! Do Trier and drive to Bernkastel-Kues. That's a very nice day trip from Luxembourg. Another nice day trip is to drive along the Saar river to Saarbrücken. Metz is also a beautiful city. And if you're into Forumla 1 car racing or love hiking visit Nürburgring...
