In March 2008 will be my mothers 50th Birthday and her daughters, sisters and nieces are taking her for a week. And its a surprise! We already have the apartment books, have ideas on what to do, but have no idea where to take her for her birthday dinner! She will turn 50 while we are there and want it to be truely magical! Any ideas?
Two suggestions...neither of them cheap, unfortunately. But after all, she is your Mom! First, one of the dinner cruises down the Seine...music, food, and Paris at night! Second suggestion, dinner at the Jules Verne restaurant on the second floor of the Eiffel Tower. They fill up quick, so phone ASAP for reservations....011-33-1-4555-6144. Plead with them, and you may get window seats.
The dinner cruise, while the crusie aspect is very appealing, no one would ever tout the food. Perhaps a nice dinner at a restaurant then a evening wine cruise would be nice.
I don't know size or budget for your group, but, have you looked at the websites for " Flo Brasseries" , look at La Coupole and Bofingers,, I have not eaten at Bofingers, but I have enjoyed La Coupole.
Of course if you have a healthy( read, lots of money) there are dozens of excellant choices available to you. I am not in that budget range.
I would imagine dinner at Eiffel Tower would be nice, but, at least 100 euros a head or more. Try for window table and sunset!

For a magical experience try a reservation for one of the following:
Cafe de l'homme - at Museo de l'Homme at Trocadero (ligne 6 or 9) this has a view directly at the Eiffel Tower.

What a wonderful city to celebrate such a milestone birthday!
I agree that dinner at Jules Verne at the Eiffel Tower would be wonderful. The dinner cruise along the Seine would be quite memorable as well.
If you're looking for something a little different, a little bohemian, there's La Bonne Franquette in Montmartre. We eat here at least once when we travel to Paris. I'm not sure about other nights, but the weekends provide quite the entertainment by means of a singer and amorous accordian player. It's always a lot of fun...the food is divine...it's a wonderful restaurant.
There's Fouquet's on Champs-Elysees where the French celebs go to see and be seen.
