We have 12 days in Northern Italy and Switzerland. Where can we base for 2-3 nights each and take days trips. We will not be hiking and I don't do cable cars. Plan to travel by train. What not to miss and where to stay ?

Do you have RS guide books for those two areas? If so, great. If not, I would suggest you get them as they are full of information that will help you refine your itinerary and might enable you to ask more specific questions on this web site. I have been thru that area and it is truly beautiful.

Alana. Google the names of a couple of places where you think you might like to stay. Follow all the links and away you go.
Google Tourist Information Centres in these towns for great information. You can email them directly with any enquiries you might have. Find your own 'back doors' Check out the Swiss Rail site for itineraries etc.
