Driving from Munich to the German/Swiss border. We will either go to Fussen or just Lindau on the way. We need to pick a city in Germany to drop the car off and then We will be activating Swiss Saver Passes. Konstanz is a choice as well as Lindau. It looks like we have to take a ferry to get to Konstanz. (what will that cost? Is it a car ferry?) If we choose Lindau we will have to pay to get from Lindau to Switzerland (We are traveling through Zurich) Any Suggestions? Thank you, Tina

YOu can drop your car off in Lindau there is an Avis agency there.
then train it to Zurich from Lindau train station. I have done the opposite and it works well no transfers, short train ride to either Zurich airport or central Zurich.

Can you drop the car in Friedrichshafen? Then you could take the ferry for a few Euro across the Bodensee to Romanshorn in Switzerland.
If you drop it in Lindau, the fare from there to St. Margrethen, in Switzerland, is €6,80.
You can get to Konstanz without a ferry, but it is rather round-about around the Überlingen branch of the west end of the lake. From Konstanz it is a very short distance to Kreuzlingen, in Switzerland.

The ferry to Konstanz is a car ferry. About 15 euro if I remember.
One watchout: Konstanz was large enough that some navigation was needed between the ferry and at least the Sixt Rental car we used. Also we needed to bus between the train station and the sixt.

By contrast, Lindau is pretty tiny. Just about everything is within walking distance.
