Where can I buy Laphroaig Single Malt Whiskey in Toulouse, France

We are visiting my wife's family in Toulouse, France. My Father in law loves Laphroaig Whiskey so I would like to buy a bottle as a gift. I would rather not have to purchase it in the States and cart it there. (there may be quirky customs issues anyway) Does anyone know if it can be purchased in Toulouse or the Avignon area?

I don't know....finding single-malt Scotch in France might be too much for the French to bear! In any event, you can safely bring goods into France duty free up to the value of 175 Euro, including one litre of spirits (see http://www.info-france-usa.org/intheus/customs/18000.asp). There's also an informal group of whiskey fans in Toulouse...you might find some local outlets there by e-mailing them, (http://passionnesdumalt.free.fr/) but it's likely to be a lot more expensive over there.

It appears that the new travel restrictions makes bringing liquor from the US almost impossible. We are connecting through Montreal which is one of the cities that have more stringent rules. From what I can tell there is not way to put it in carry on. One blog stated that a traveler will loose any liquor packed in checkin luggage upon a reinspection from Montreal to Paris. In any event..looks like I must purchase the Laphroaig in France. This brings me back to my original question...any good links or blogs where I can find a place to buy in Paris, Avignon area, or Toulouse?

Hi Bob,

I emailed the Whiskey club in Toulouse for you in French, asking for names and addresses of stores in Toulouse that might carry this Whiskey.

My french is a bit dicey, so I can't promise much. However, if I hear back from them, I'll let you know directly.

P.S., I know your wife must speak French (and probably yourself also), but I was just practicing. :)

Hi Bob,

I heard back from the Whiskey club:

Bonjour,

Antoine

Hello,

I hope that it is not too late for my reply.

For Laphroaig whiskey, aged 10 years 40° is in all the big supermarkets( carrefour, leclerc, auchan).

If you want 10 year cask strength or 15 year 43°, it is necessary to go to a "caviste" (one who tends a cave - ?).

Tell me where he resides in Toulouse and I will tell you what is closest.

Bien à vous

Antoine

So, do you want to have stores closest to the airport or train station so you can pick it up on your way to your family's house, or near their home? Email me at [email protected].
