A lot depends on what parts of Spain and Portugal you are visiting in October. My wife and I went to Andalusia last October and most days were warm. We only packed light fleece jackets and light-weight rain gear and that did us just fine. Many days we were in shorts. But further north in Spain it might be colder and rainier that time of year. So check generally weather patterns online.
