What to do with 4 days between Salzburg and Lucerne?

My husband and I will be leaving Salzburg on Sept 10 after a week long bike ride. We have 4 days to enjoy before checking into a rental Chalet in Lauterbrunnen on Sept 14. We will be travelling by train and intend to take the Golden Pass from Lucerne to Lauterbrunnen. I would appreciate any recommendations of places to see in the area. Possibly 2 days somewhere and 2 days in Lucerne? Any great castles to see in the area?
Thanks for your help!

Just west of Interlaken there is a castle in Thun. We took the train to Thun and then took a leasurely boat ride back to Interlaken. If your going to Lauterbrunnen you will have to transfer in one of the Interlaken stops. Chamonix France is not far if you like fondue and Rocelette......I really doubt you will be bored in any event, the possibilities are many.

There is the very picturesque Oberhofen castle on lake Thun. Spiez and Thun have castles as well. Also you could consider taking the steamer on lake Brienz to the turn-of-the-century grand hotel Giesbach which is in a fabulous location next to a waterfall (the hotel was saved from demolition and restored). The Ballenberg open air historical park is another option if you are interested in rural architecture.
There are other areas in the Berner Oberland (beside the Jungfrau) such as the Kander valley and the Oeschinen lake if you are into hiking.
