I will be visiting Nancy, France, for a 2-3 days in May on business. I will have some time off though, and would appreciate tips on what to see and do. My host will have a car so that is not a problem. I am also willing to travel outside Nancy/Metz if there is a 'biggie' sight nearby. Thanks!
Do go and see the Musee de l'Ecole de Nancy: lovely art nouveau furniture and decorative art.
Nancy is the home of Art Nouveau. Besides the Ecole, there's a great collection of Daum glassware in the basement of Musee des Beaux-Arts, plus a number of other Art Nouveau buildings including the Brasserie Excelsior (the T.I. has a list and a map). The Musee Lorrain is quite interesting, and the Place Stanislas is in the running for most magnificent square in Europe. Wish I were going... I'd be tempted to go to Strasbourg, which has a stunning cathedral and a cute medieval section. It's an hour and a half on the train.
