Hi, we'll be in Porto for 4 days, arriving noon first day and leaving noon 4th day, so really only 3 days. I've read Rick's recommendations, anything else you'd really recommend? Thanks!
Take the train for a day trip to the magnificent Douro Valley.
I don't recall exactly what Rick's recommendations are, but I consider the Hop-On, Hop-Off bus tours (three routes), at 10 Euros, to be the best bargain in Europe. The 24-hr tickets also allow you to ride the city buses so if you are down on the Ribeira you can get UP to the train station or shopping areas. We rode two of the tours all around without getting off, just listening to the commentary. Note that they run every hour or hour-and-a-half, not every 10 minutes like some other cities, so if you do get off the bus plan your time well and don't miss the next one!
Also, if you discover (or already know) that you like Port wine, the Solar in the Crystal Palace Garden has many, many bottles available for tasting (not free; it's like a wine bar) and the outside tables looking over the Douro can't be beat.
Agree that time spent on a cruise/train ride up the Douro Valley is a good idea; the scenery is really beautiful.
Thanks Judy and Kari!! We all can't wait to go!
