We leave for our Spain adventure in a week! We will have time to take the bus down to the beaches from either Sevilla or Granada. Does anyone have a great suggestion? We were considering Nerja, but it sounds little touristy. Thanks!
Nerja is quite pretty and should not be too full of tourists this time of the year. However any place along the coast will have tourists. Lots of places to eat and drink.
If all you want is the beach, just take the bus down to Mazagón (Huelva). Its the beach closest to Seville (about 45 mins) and has a very family atmosphere. Not all that pretty, but nice nonetheless.
My husband and I loved Nerja! We went off season (March) and were able to get a hotel with a view of the Med. sea. We did not find Nerja touristy at that time of year, and we loved the outdoor market that is held there once a week (I think). Have fun!
We loved Nerja, too. In one afternoon we visited the beach, the incredible Nerja cave (very cathedral like inside...the most beautiful cave I've ever seen) and the breathtakingly beautiful nearby whitewashed hill town of Frigiliana. We enjoyed wine and olives at the Parador overlooking the ocean. It was simply magical.
Oh, and we were in Nerja in August. We loved watching all of the extended generations of Spanish families strolling together late into the night. The (mostly) Spanish tourists were very charming to watch.
Thank you everyone for your replies. We have decided to go to Nerja! We leave for our adventure on Tuesday and can't wait!
