Marseilles is too far west, it's considered in Provence not the Riviera--you probably want to look at a map such as Google Earth that shows you the scale in miles or km between these points. In the Riviera, places often on itineraries are:NiceMonaco (day trip only)AntibesCannesSt TropezVillefrancheSt PaulVence
Thanks for the info.
Is the cost of finding inexpesive places to sleep possible?
I will be there for May 2009.
I am biking around Provance for 8 days and then maybe take public transportation to the Riviera for 5 days
Answering your question, in May--yes. It's not the summer season yet.
The Riviera / Cote d'Azure is one of our favorite regions! We have stayed a few different places but have found Antibes and Cap d'Antibes to be the best. They are centrally located to the rest of the area, have good transportation connections, lovely "old town" to explore for shopping & restaurants/cafes, plenty of reasonable places to stay, nice beach, Picasso museum, etc. Some people like to base in Nice but we prefer Antibes. The region is full of goodies: medieval hill towns, perfume factories, beaches, art, yachts to oogle at, gardens, hiking/walking, yummy food, etc. Look at Rick's France book for all there is to do in the area.
