What is a good time to be at Eiffel Tower on Bastille day?

I'm so excited about our upcoming trip to Paris. We get there on Bastille day. I have 2 kids(8yrs and 3yrs). Assuming we are all not jet lagged, what will be a good time to visit the Eiffel tower on that day? Also, we have not booked any tours yet to see the other attractions. Will it be easier and cheaper to book tours after we get to Paris? Thank you all for your help.

Because they shoot the fireworkd off of the Eiffel Tower, I doubt if you will be able to ascend it all on the 14th, or if you can, then only to the 1st level and not all the way. Even the next day, you might not be able to go to the top. Check their website to see. The party for the evening gets started quite late as it isn't totally dark until about 23:00, so maybe the kids could nap for a while that afternoon. People picnic on the grass, but it fills up really early. Grab some drinks and food items early in the day if you can. The Metro will be PACKED after the show ends, and you might have to wait quite a while for one to come by that you can get on, unless your hotel is near enough to walk to. All that said, we found the show to be exceptional and well worth the wait, but we didn't have little kids with us.
