What area do you think I should stay in Paris?

I was gioing to stay at a hostel St Christophers in Montmartre the 14th district or

a hostel MJE 6 rue de Fourcy – 75004 Paris 4th district.
Is the Montmartre a good area but is it not a little out of the way?
I Will be staying in Paris off and on for about 7 days

I'd stay in the 4th. Can walk to a lot of the city from there. Montmartre is nice too though more out of the way ad you say.

You can't beat any of the three MIJE hostels for either accommodations or location.

If it is very close to a "good" metro stop, it will be fine, either way. "Good" = 2-3 lines going to/near the places you want to see (or the train stations you need, since it sounds like you are going out of city too). Transferring in the Metro isn't hopping off one train and hopping on the next, it can be going up and down 1, 2, 3 levels and/or walking for ages. Well, maybe only a couple city blocks.

The 4th is more central.. thats all there is to it,,I am not saying there is anything wrong with the 14th,, but just look on a map..The 4th puts you within walking distance of many sites, plus the river which is sort of my center point in Paris.

I would highly recommend the place in the 4th. It is very central and within walking distance to TONS of stuff. It also has a metro stop on a good line less than a block away. I feel like you will save money because you can walk as opposed to spending money on metro tickets, which you will have to do to get to anything and everything if you stay up in Montmartre.
