any suggestions on meals and places to eat in those cities? Looking for reasonable prices but good. Places where you can experience the local flavor and culture of the area. Thanks!!!!
In Munich I really enjoy the Augustiner Grossgaststatte and the Hirschgarten Bier Garten. Both offer a traditional Bavarian beer hall / garden experience. In Salzburg the Augustiner Braustubl is a must. The food "arcade" is fantastic. Also in Salzburg, I ate at the Weissbierbrauerei "Die Weisse" and had a great meal at a decent price. When are you going? I will be in Munich and Prague in May if you need more suggestions!
Thanks, we actually leave next week.
In Munich the various beer halls are enjoyable- a great experience at night- each has its own admirers; we also enjoyed the ratskeller at lunch time. You can choose from a huge hall or smaller rooms- all have atmosphere and pretty good food and beer
In Prague two of our favorite place were Chez Marcel and Pizzeria Rugatino (Dušní 4). We had our first Escargot at Chez Marcel and I must say they were actually very good. Waiters were all hovering around us to make us feel welcome. Pizzeria Rugatino had excellent pizza even though it may look like a fast-food kid friendly pizza parlor. Again excellent pizza and wine. Excellent price. For Munich - head to the English Gardens and find a Beer Garden. Wow - excellent food/drink and wonderful atmosphere.
I can recommend three: In Vienna we have dined several times at Zum Finstern-not easy to find but it is on Schuhof located behind the Am Hof-it is small and Mozart performed there as a youngster and it was most likely not a restaurant then. We were there in colder weather but they do offer outside dining which they describe as dining under a large Bluebell tree. Prague: we enjoyed David which is located behind the Alchemist Hotel-an easy walk from the Charles Bridge area. We had a five course meal there and it was very special. I should add that these meals would have been way more costly here in the US. Salzburg: Stiftskeller St Peter offers the Mozart dinner which is fun and between courses the musicians perform. We enjoyed it!
In Munich, we loved the Viktualienmarkt. It's near the heart of the city and offers a wide variety of casual foods and beer.
