Has anyone ever visited the town of Hengelo in western Netherlands? I may have the opportunity to visit and would like any advice for the area.

I have not been to that town, but I have been to Enschede right next door a couple of times. The area has beautiful walking and biking trails. Also, the National Park Hoge Veluwe is very close. It is a wonderful place to spend a day biking through and visiting the museum in the center (over 250 Van Gogh pieces).
Just remember that pretty much anywhere in the Netherlands is only a few hours train ride away and you can easily visit any other cities you are interested in.
