Guten tag- We are considering a trip to the western region(Vorarlberg) of Austria, this fall. We love the outdoors, hiking & easy biking; mixed with culture & history (husband is WWII buff). Any suggestiona are welcome. Danke to those who have already responded...awesome advise!!!

This entire website is packed with information about Tyrol and the Austrian State of Salzburg (=Western Austria). You should find plenty of suggestions from all those previous posts.
The famous Grossglockner Road! http://www.nationalpark-hohetauern.at/en.aspx/Sehenswertes/View/551
What time of year are you considering and what activities do you have in mind? I love the town of Lech am Arlberg for summer hiking and winter skiing. Its a quiet, isolated getaway. If you're not there for hiking or skiing, though, there's not too much to do.
Andreas-
You mention an entire website, but I see nothing.
Patsy, you MUST visit Salzburg. It simply, Wonderful! The group of us many years ago got a private tour from a guide that reminded me of McGivor (the t.v. show). He gave us a tour of the city, and the countryside that I remember fondly today. I would not recommend going on a coach tour, but do something private as the tour agents there are certified and well educated. If you like The Sound of Music, you will be Thrilled with Salzburg for that 1 reason among many others. If you run into Hannes Aufleger, say hi from the Canadians please. His email is not the same unfortunately, or I would give it to you.
Good luck!
Most of the places we go are ski areas, but have cute towns along with the skiing. Summer has hiking, horse riding, swimming in lakes, etc. Lake Constance is a nice place all around, including the tiny bit in Austria. I agree with Lech, Solden is another great ski area, cute town. Then in the Zell Am See area, we really like Saalbach-Hinterglemm towns.
Salzburg for sure, Hallstatt (one of the prettiest towns I've ever seen) in the lakes district outside of Salzburg and, in the Arlberg region, St. Anton am Arlberg, one of my favorite places on the planet! http://www.stantonamarlberg.com/sommer Awesome ski resort that offers some of the best hiking in the region. Cable car from center of town whisks you up into the mountains, and up top, there are endless hiking options (ranging from easy to difficult/challenging, so pretty much something for everyone). I like St. Anton so much, I've been there twice, once in winter for skiing, once in summer for the hiking. The small, neighboring villages of St. Jakob and St. Christoph are pretty, too. They all offer amazing alpine scenery and activities. If you end up in St. Anton, you're sure to love it. Good luck w/ the trip planning.
Lake of Constance if you can make that work...one of the most beautiful places. (but may remind your of Tahoe...)
Everyone- Vielen dank for your sharing your knowledge....appreciate your time! Patsy
