Wengen in Sept

Any ideas on what to do in Wengen, Switzerland in early Sept? Also, any good restaurants or cafes there?

If you have good weather, get up high into the alps. You can use trains and lifts. September can be good weather for hiking (but not always-I've seen snow there in September twice and that will close some of the higher trails) I am 52 but still hike regularly. My favorites were the hike to Obersteinberg (where you can get lunch)and the Hike from the Schyngie Platte to First. (with a stop at Falhorn for lunch). They both have awesome views, but are both listed as difficult. There are a lot of other hikes as well. As for restaurants: I always stop by the Oberland Hotel restaurant for some Rosti. It is awesome stuff. (kinda expensive for what it is but this is Switzerland and the price is in line with other places) Have a great trip.

Whoops: I forgot to mention that the Oberland Hotel is in Lauterbrunnen not Wengen.

Thanks for the info. It wasn't my choice to go to Wengen, but I figured to try & find out what to do in this touristy spot. My husband & I go back to Europe every year, sometimes twice, & most folks tagging along only go every 2 - 5 yrs. To be fair when traveling with others, we always give one destination choice to folks going with us. My Aunt who is traveling with us this time with her best friend, and they want to meet up with some friends which live there and picked this as their choice of city to visit. We start out in Paris, then to Wengen via high speed train a couple of nights, and then it looks like everyone, including her friends, will be going with us to Prague where my husband is from. We usually only have 1 or 2 other people go back with us to Czech Republic, so this will be a new experience having 4 people traveling with us.

Hopefully this goes without saying, but:

If you hike be prepared for all weather. In the mountains weather can always change but even more so as the days shorten in September.

Even if it's beautiful all day, the temperature will drop a lot later in the day and even more after dark.
