My wife and I are spending a few days in Weiden i.d.Oberpfalz after touring other areas in Germany. Has anyone spent any time there? Any recommendations on what to see and where to eat local cuisine in this area? We are both history buffs and enjoy "off the beaten track" types of things to do. Thank you for any recommendations you can pass along.

Mark have you checked out www.weiden-oberpfalz.de it has a nice walking tour discription with map of what looks like some great things to see in the town. Doesn't really look "off the beaten track" (it's in the town) but quite a bit of history. As to where to eat... www.braeuwirt.de looks like a pretty nice menu plus the history of the property looks pretty interesting.
