I am helping some college students plan some fun weekend getaways using eurail passes. They will be in Innsbruck and are looking for some fun ideas for weekend travel. Any ideas?? They will have from Thursday afternoon to leave and return to Innsbruck on Sundays. Thanks!

Going to Switzerland from Innsbruck would be a classic case of "carrying coals to New Castle". Plus, Switzerland can quickly wipe out a college budget. Although not my favorite Alpine city, the scenery there is still incredible. From Innsbruck, they are much closer to Munich, Salzburg, Mittenwald, GaP, Fuessen, and even Venice.

Well - the St Moritz and Engadine area is right nearby - or just go to the Dolomites. Going to the Swiss Alps in Lauterbrunnen is a bit of a journey when you are surrounded already buy the other parts of the alps! Check out Bolzano area (Dolomites/Italian/Austrian border Sud-Tyrol etc)
