We will be in Zurich the end of October for an event and will be adding on a week for tourism afterwards. I've read that the scenic/Alpine areas (Lucerne, Berner Oberland, etc) can be damp and foggy in October and November. What are the conditions like? Are these areas worthwhile this time of year? More specifically, we are debating between spending the rest of our trip in Switzerland or going to France or Italy. If we don't see Switzerland this time, we'll be sure to go back in the future!
"I've read that the scenic/Alpine areas (Lucerne, Berner Oberland, etc) can be damp and foggy in October and November." You wrote it yourself. You might get lucky and have some clear days, but gray and overcast will be more likely.
Thanks for the response. Perhaps I should clarify- does what I read mean just a dreary fall day or are the conditions sufficiently bad to ruin the scenery and we should skip those areas on this trip?
As much as I love Switzerland and the Alps, I would not spend a week there in November. Maybe a night or 2 in Luzern. but then I would head south on the train that runs between Zurich and Milan, maybe stopping at Como if the weather was favorable, otherwise continuing south to Florence.
