Going to Paris for a week starting Oct. 5, and Provence for another week starting Oct. 12. Any idea what the weather will be/is usually like then? Don't know if I should bring shorts/tank tops. Thanks.
The average temperature in Paris in mid-October falls between 57F/14C and 62F/17C. You probably won't be comfortable in shorts or tank tops. It will be warmer in Provence (low 70s), but you should pack on the cool side just in case of strong breezes.
Sue: You won't need shorts or tank tops in Paris, especially in October.
Thanks for the tip. Living in the SF Bay Area makes me forget how chilly the Fall can be elsewhere!
However you dress in Oakland in winter will be a good way to dress in France in October. Remember, it could (probably will) rain. Waterproof shoes can be helpful. If you still feel cold, just buy one of those long colorful scarves available in France. Wrap it around your head, neck, shoulders for more warmth. I've been in Paris several times in October and the only time it felt cold to me was one year at the very end of October. I dress in layers, with a cotton turtleneck and fleece sweater in case it gets cold. My coat is a waterproof shell with lots of pockets and a hood. I find rainhats and umbrellas to be more nuisance than help. I think you will find daytimes very comfortably warm, with evenings somewhat cool. Bon Voyage!
