I'll do a dangerous thing and tell you my experience. Understand that doesn't mean it will be the same for you.

My experience is the southern half of Germany is fairly comfortable during the first half of October. Days can be cool to almost warm and nights are cool to cold. Somewhere around the middle of October it starts to turn cold. Days are cool to cold and nights are cold. Rain is a definite possibility all month.

In northern Germany, the transition from cool to cold comes earlier - maybe late September and it's usually a lot wetter.
